About 120 people live on Iona all year round. Some families have lived here for many generations whilst others have arrived more recently to establish a life on the island. Work on Iona is dominated by tourism and crofting. The population is boosted to around 300 in the summer as many people come to the island to holiday and to fill the summer jobs.
There is a primary school with a roll of around 10. For secondary education pupils need to board in Oban.
